Piscataqua Sustainability Initiative at Farmers' Market 8/22

The Piscataqua Sustainability Initiative (PSI) is a guest vendor at the Newmarket Farmers' Market this Saturday, August 22nd.

They provide training and assistance to Seacoast towns in incorporating sustainable practices.

This organization began as a grassroots effort to incorporate sustainable practices in the ten year master plan of Portsmouth using the studies developed by Natural Step. PSI's name refers to the 68 towns in the Piscataqua River Watershed.

Natural Step offers a variety of approaches for communities. The primary objective is to help municipalities and their broader communities build capacity to understand and move strategically toward sustainability. They customize education and training programs to make the best use of the tools and programs already in place.

Communities are given practical tools and information for developing sustainable practices and systems. Access is provided to an extensive global network of sustainability experts and leaders who are committed to accelerating the world's transition to a more sustainable and prosperous future.

Since the first Natural Step for Communities Portsmouth committee members began the Natural Step Study Circles in 2006, many study circles and an ever-widening group of trained facilitators have rippled outward. The PSI will be leading other study circles, generating the same excitement and energy to make a difference in the 68 Piscataqua watershed towns
. For more information, contact PSI.

Newmarket Farmers'Market is open Saturdays from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. in The Stone Church parking lot through October 10th. The weekly vendors offer fresh and organic food choices.
